gerd diet

Today, we are going to discuss gerd diet. Gerd is short for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. Most people refer to it as heartburn. You can get rid of your heartburn pain, without expensive medications, risky surgeries, or giving up your favorite foods -> gerd diet

This common disorder affects millions of people and is a result of
stomach acid refluxing into the lower esophagus through the lower esophageal sphincter. The lower esophageal sphincter is a tight band of muscles that serves to protect against reflux material by contracting and relaxing. However, the problem arises when this band of muscles relaxes and contracts at the wrong times, this is when reflux occurs.

The symptoms of this disorder range from...

  • Heartburn
  • Sour fluid coming up into the mouth
  • Coughing
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Chest Discomfort

There are a number of reasons for the lower esophageal sphincter relaxing which results in GERD and one of them is food. This is the reason we need to discuss a healthy gerd diet, but first let's list a few other factors that can lead to gerd.

  • Fried/Fatty Foods
  • Tobacco Products

These are just a couple of items that can lead to this miserable discomfort. If you use tobacco products or regularly eat fatty or fried foods, I suggest making some modifications to your lifestyle.

OK, as for the gerd diet. This is a diet that is comprised of foods that have little risk of causing reflux. They include the following foods broken up into food groups:

Meat:

  • Egg Whites
  • Egg Substitute
  • Ground beef that is extra lean
  • Steak- London Broil
  • Skinless Chicken Breast

Fruit:

  • Fresh or Dried Apples
  • Apple Juice
  • Banana

Grain:

  • Multigrain or White Bread
  • Graham Crackers
  • Bran or Oatmeal Cereal

  • Corn Bread
  • Rice Cakes

Desserts:
